TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - From his playing days to now, current assistant women's tennis coach Ricky Doverspike has always excelled on the courts for Alabama.
Doverspike's playing career was a highly decorated one, but his coaching career may prove to be even better. His pride in and dedication to The University of Alabama has kept him around Tuscaloosa, and his assistance has proved beneficial to the Alabama women's tennis team's success.
In his first season coaching the Crimson Tide women, Doverspike helped lead Alabama to a Southeastern Conference title, the first in program history. The team immediately followed that up by earning its first ever national championship. The doubles pairing of Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe clinched the national title for Alabama, winning 6-1, 6-0 and dropping a total of just 13 points all match at the NCAA Finals.
Recently, RollTide.com talked with Doverspike, women's tennis head coach Jenny Mainz and national champion Maya Jansen to find out what Doverspike's influence has truly meant to the Alabama program.
