Alabama Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Day Two at ITA Southern Regional Championships

No. 37 Andie Daniell advanced to the quarterfinal round in singles after posting a 4-0 record after two days of competition
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis wrapped up the second day of the 2017 ITA Southern Regional Championships on Saturday in Auburn, Ala. Junior Andie Daniell advanced to the quarterfinal round after posting her second consecutive perfect day in singles.
In the singles main draw, No. 37 Daniell took down Hannah Brett of McNeese State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to move on to the quarterfinal round of southern regionals.
Senior Smith Hinton ended regionals with a 3-1 record after falling to Taylor Russo of Auburn, 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 16.
In the singles consolation bracket, sophomore Ann Selim defeated Ivone Alvaro of Tulane, 4-6, 7-5 (10-6), but slipped to Kennan Johnson of LSU, 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the semifinal round.
In doubles play, the duo of sophomore Jacqueline Pelletier and Hinton defeated Sisti/La Fuente of Tulane, 7-6 (5), to move on to the quarterfinal round, but their run ended after falling to Johnson/Richardson of LSU, 8-5.
Lastly, in the doubles consolation draw, the pairing of Selim and sophomore Alba Cortina-Pou dominated Hecking/Hrabalova of UAB, 8-1, but later fell in the quarterfinals to Chen/de la Luz of Louisiana Tech, 8-6.
Daniell will compete on the third day of the 2017 ITA Southern Regional Championships tomorrow, Oct. 22 in the quarterfinals against Eden Richardson of LSU at 11 a.m. CT.
