Alabama Women’s Basketball Tips Off Regular Season on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team welcomes in Alabama A&M for the Crimson Tide's 2017-18 season opener on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT at Coleman Coliseum.

- Beat Auburn Beat Hunger: Fans who bring a canned food item to Friday's game will receive $1 admission.
THE BROADCAST
- Friday's game will stream live on SEC Network + via the WatchESPN app. Eli Gold (play-by-play) and Rick Moody (analyst) will be on the call.
- The game can also be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network on 100.1 FM in Tuscaloosa with Roger Hoover on the broadcast.
OPENING TIP
- Alabama returns its entire team from last year's squad that won 22 games, the most wins since 1997-98, and advanced to the SEC tournament and WNIT quarterfinals.
- In addition to its returnees, the Crimson Tide welcomes four newcomers – three transfers and one true freshman.
- Alabama has gone 3-1 in season openers under head coach Kristy Curry. All three wins have come at home. The lone loss was at Chattanooga to tip off the 2013-14 season.
- This is the second time in the last three years the Crimson Tide will open with the Lady Bulldogs. Alabama and Alabama A&M met in the 2015-16 season opener as well, where UA won 96-44.
- The Crimson Tide has won all 11 matchups in the series against the Lady Bulldogs.
CAREER RECORD WATCH
- Senior Ashley Williams currently stands at No. 10 on Alabama's career leaders in rebounds with 622. She is 42 away from the No. 9 spot, held by Laura Vaughn (1987-91: 664).
- Senior Quanetria Bolton ranks fifth in career blocks with 99. She is now five away from surpassing Joni Crenshaw (1998-01: 103) for the No. 4 spot.
- Sophomore Ashley Knight set the UA single-season block record a season ago and is already No. 8 on the career list with 90. She is two away from passing Nikki Hegstetter (2012-16: 91) to move into seventh.
- Senior Hannah Cook, the SEC's top three-point shooter last season, is No. 6 in Alabama history in makes (204) and seventh in attempts (600).
Hannah Cook Named to Cheryl Miller Award Watch List
- Senior Hannah Cook was one of 20 from across the nation selected to the inaugural Cheryl Miller Award watch list, which will be presented to the nation's top small forward.
- The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists by mid-February and then five finalists in March. The winner will be announced during the telecast of the national semifinal games in the 2018 NCAA Final Four on Friday, March 30.
