
Alabama Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Portland and Eastern Washington in Seattle

The Crimson Tide improves to 11-1 after a pair of wins at Nordstrom Tennis Center
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Alabama women's tennis team toppled over Portland, 4-0, and Eastern Washington University, 6-1, on Saturday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington. The Crimson Tide improves to 11-1 after its three-match swing in Seattle.
Alabama bounced right back into its winning ways, blanking Portland, 4-0, in the first match of the doubleheader for its sixth shutout-victory of the season.
The Crimson Tide took the early 1-0 lead after capturing a pair of doubles matches. Freshman Kylie Moulin and sophomore Jacqueline Pelletier moved past Nikitovic/Ramalle, 6-3, at No. 3, while junior Andie Daniell and senior Smith Hinton took care of Lukic/Leblanc, 6-3, at No. 1.
In singles, the Crimson Tide swept the first three matches to secure the shutout. Moulin started things off for the Tide at No. 5, dominating Emily Soares, 6-1, 6-1. Moments later, sophomore Alba Cortina-Pou pushed Alabama to a 3-0 lead, cruising past Nina Nikitovic, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. Lastly, sophomore Luca Fabian put the icing on the cake, topping Raphaelle Leblanc, 6-0, 6-4, on court four to solidify the win.
In the night cap, the Crimson Tide defeated Eastern Washington, 6-1, to complete the doubleheader sweep.
In doubles, Daniell and Smith teamed up and took down Smith/Braeden, 6-3, at No. 1, while Selim and Fabian outlasted Nelson/Worrall, 7-6(4), to clinch the doubles point for the 1-0 lead.
In singles, Sophomore Kimberley Gintrand trounced Rachel Swindell, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6, while Cortina-Pou defeated Faye Worrall in similar fashion, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Then on court one, No. 89 Daniell handled Janaya Smith, 6-0, 6-2, to clinch the match.
Wrapping up action for the Tide were Hinton, Pelletier and Fabian who went 2-1. Hinton topped Rylee Braeden, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, while Pelletier rolled past Stephanie Broussard, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 5. However, in the final match of the day, the Eagles avoided a sweep by defeating Fabian on court three, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(8).
Up next, Alabama will compete in Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 23-24 at the annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
