Crimson Tide will play in second tournament in as many weeks
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The second-ranked Alabama men's golf team will play in its second tournament in as many weeks when it travels to Olympia Fields, Ill., to compete in the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational. The tournament will take place Sept. 14-16 at the famed Olympia Fields Country Club North Course, a par-70, 7,353-yard track that has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open, among other high-level tournaments.
The Crimson Tide lineup will boast the same starting five as last weekend's Carpet Capital Collegiate and will be led by senior Davis Riley. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native is the defending individual champion from a year ago, claiming OFCC/Illini Invitational medalist honors with a career-best score of 10-under par 200 (66-67-67).
Riley will be joined by freshman Frankie Capan III, who is coming off a top-10 finish in his first career tournament at last week's season-opening event. Sophomores Wilson Furr and Davis Shore, along with junior Josh Sedeno, will complete the Crimson Tide's starting five.
This year's tournament boasts another competitive field, featuring three of the top-five teams in the nation in top-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 2 Alabama and No. 4 Texas A&M. In all, 10 of the 14 teams competing are ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Preseason Top-25 Poll.
The Crimson Tide will tee off its first round on Friday morning. Live scoring can be found throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
