Ares Teixido Picks Up Ranked Win and Advances to Singles Quarterfinal at ITA Regionals on Saturday

BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman Ares Teixido picked up two singles wins, including one over a nationally-ranked opponent on her way to the single quarterfinal at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.
Round-by-Round
- Teixido began the day with her first nationally ranked win of her career when she defeated No. 115 Magda Adaloglou of Mississippi State, in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(4). The freshman followed up by besting another SEC-foe after battling to the 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, victory over Tereza Janatova from Ole Miss, on her way to the quarterfinals.
- Senior Alba Cortina Pou moved to the Round of 16 with her 6-1, 6-2, victory over Daniela LaFuente of Tulane, before falling to Paris Corley of LSU, 6-3, 6-3.
- In singles consolations, senior Ann Selim won against Emma Dancetovic of Northwestern State, 6-1, 6-1.
- In the main draw of doubles, junior Moka Ito and freshman Isabella Harvison fell to Meredith/Axon of Auburn, 8-3. In consolations, senior Luca Fabian and Selim defeated Jennings/Oest, 8-2.
Tournament Note
- Teixido earned her first-career singles win on Friday and followed it up with two wins on Saturday. The Lleida, Spain native, also came up with her first top-125 win on Saturday.
