
Alabama Rowing Prepares for Sunday’s Big 12 Championships

The Crimson Tide makes its third trip of the season to Oak Ridge for the Big 12 Conference Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama rowing team hits the road for the Big 12 Championships, returning to Oak Ridge, Tenn. It will be the Crimson Tide's third trip of the 2018-19 season to Oak Ridge and fourth trip overall to the Volunteer state.
"We are eager to race," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "The Big 12 has some strong teams and we are excited to line up and see how our best compares to the best in the conference."
Alabama enters Sunday's racing as the No. 2 seed in the conference in the First Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 4+ and Third Varsity 8+. The Tide's Second Varsity 8+ and First Varsity 4+ crews will each race as the No. 3 seed.
This year's championships will be a finals-only format, with Alabama's Third Varsity 4+ starting the morning off in an exhibition race at 8 a.m. CT. The Third Varsity 8+ final (8:15 a.m. CT) will be up next, followed by the Second Varsity 4+ (8:30 a.m. CT), First Varsity 4+ (8:45 a.m. CT), Second Varsity 8+ (9 a.m. CT). The First Varsity 8+ crews will wrap up competition at 9:15 a.m. CT. An awards ceremony will conclude the morning of racing at 10 a.m. CT.
Last season, Alabama finished fifth, racking up bronze medals in the First Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Third Varsity 8+.
