Junior Moka Ito and freshman Isabella Harvison defeated the No. 11 doubles pair in the nation

HOUSTON – Junior Moka Ito and freshman Isabella Harvison defeated the No. 11 doubles pair in the country on the final day of the Rice Invitational on Sunday in Houston, Texas.

Round-by-Round

Alabama dominated the day in doubles, while going 3-0 starting with Ito/Harvison taking care of No. 11 Rice/Alter (Arkansas), 7-5, and seniors Luca Fabian and Ann Selim cruising past Huang/Budin of Rice, 6-2. Senior Alba Cortina Pou and freshman Ares Teixido also won their doubles matchup against Balzert/Campos (Colorado), 7-6(5).
Ito bested No. 55 Tatum Rice of Arkansas in a battle, 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0 (10-3) to improve to 2-1 in singles play in the tournament, while earning her second ranked win of the weekend.
Freshman Isabella Harvison picked up her second singles victory of her career after besting Laura Pellicer Perello (USF), 6-7(2), 6-2, 1-0 (10-2).

Tournament Notes

Ito's second win over a nationally ranked opponent is already more than she had all of last season with the Crimson Tide.
As a team Alabama finished with a 5-1 record in doubles play, including the big win for Ito/Harvison over Rice/Alter.

The Tide will turn its attention to the ITA All-American Championships set to go from Oct. 5-13 in Tulsa, Okla.
