The junior has totaled double-digit community service hours during his time with the Crimson Tide
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior pitcher Brock Guffey was named to the 2020 SEC Baseball Community Service Team, the league office announced on Monday morning.
Guffey spread his time in the community across four separate service projects during the 2019-20 academic year. The junior, along with his teammates, visited The Miracle League of Tuscaloosa in September. The trip gave the Tide baseball players an opportunity to teach and play baseball with the members of the Miracle League, an organization that is dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for players with mental or physical disabilities, regardless of his or her previous experience or level of ability.
Following that, Guffey took part in the Alabama Athletics Department's Halloween Extravaganza. The annual event welcomes the children of Tuscaloosa and their families inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility for Halloween fun and games. The night allows the children to interact with student-athletes from all sports and take part in sport-specific mini-games while also trick-or-treating in a controlled environment. He wrapped up the Fall 2019 semester by taking part in the Alabama Athletics Department's Thank-A-Thon.
For Guffey's most recent volunteer effort, the Hoover native attended "Night to Shine" on the Friday prior to the Crimson Tide's 2020 season opener. The event is an unforgettable prom night experience for people with special needs that is hosted simultaneously around the world in more than 720 host churches across 50 states and 34 countries. On top of his community service, Guffey is also one of Alabama baseball's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives.
Each year, the Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
