Cheshire Opens ITA Southern Regionals For Alabama Women’s Tennis

The Crimson Tide will compete in the main draw for doubles and singles on Friday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ansley Cheshire recorded her first win in a Crimson Tide uniform as the Alabama freshman kicked off the ITA Southern Regionals Thursday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
Cheshire recorded her first collegiate win in a consolation match against Giovanna Pereira from Louisiana Monroe. The Alabama freshman dropped just three games in her opening set before battling to a 7-5 decision in set two.
Earlier in the day, Cheshire faced Dariana Prato from Jacksonville State in the Qualifying Round of 64. Cheshire fought through a contested first set, forcing her way to victory out of a 6-6 tie to take the opening set 7-6(3). Prato took the second set 6-2 to force a third game. The two players went back-and-forth in the tiebreak but Prato edged Cheshire with a 13-11 victory to take the win.
The Tide returns to action Friday as doubles action kicks off at 9 a.m. CT and the main draw for singles begins at noon. The final matches for the qualifying round of singles will begin at 8 a.m. CT.
