
Alabama Swimming and Diving’s Kaique Alves Named SEC Freshman of the Week

The Crimson Tide rookie won two individual and two relay titles during UA’s road opener against Birmingham Southern last Friday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama swimming and diving's Kaique Alves was named the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office Tuesday. He earned the honor after a strong showing against Birmingham Southern last Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Alves, a freshman from San Paulo, Brazil, won the 100 butterfly (49.60) and 200 freestyle (1:37.79) in his first collegiate road meet. Alves also anchored the Tide's winning 200 medley relay and the second leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay against Birmingham Southern.
The rookie opened his Alabama career by winning the 100 and 200 freestyle against Delta State in the Tide's first meet of the 2021-22 season on Sept. 24.
Alves and the Tide return to action on Sept. 5 at home against LSU with diving starting at noon and swimming getting underway at 1 p.m. CT.
