Alabama Women’s Tennis Alumna Guarachi Extends Focus at US Open

Guarachi and partner Neal Skupski will play after 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday
NEW YORK – Alabama women's tennis alumna Alexa Guarachi and partner Desirae Krawczyk earned a spot in the US Open semifinals after winning a three-set quarterfinals match Wednesday.
After losing the first-set tiebreak 6-7 (5), Guarachi and Krawczyk battled to take a commanding 6-2 second set win. The duo maintained momentum into the third set to win the match and earn a spot in the semifinals with a 6-3 score.
Guarachi and Krawczyk will compete in the semifinals of the US Open women's double tournament Friday.
Women's Doubles Quarterfinals (Sept. 8)
NEW YORK – Alabama women's tennis alumna Alexa Guarachi continues her run at the US Open with a women's doubles quarterfinal match on Wednesday that is scheduled to begin after 4:15 p.m. CT at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.
Guarachi captured a 6-3, 6-4 win with partner Desirae Krawczyk against Anna Danilina and Yaroslava Shvedova in the first round before defeating Danka Kovinic and Rebecca Peterson 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. The pair notched their spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nadiia Kichenok and Raluca Olaru in the third round of competition.
The former Alabama All-American is making her second appearance in the women's doubles tournament. She advanced to the third round of the tournament in 2019. She concluded her first mixed doubles appearance with Neal Skupski on Tuesday, falling 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Mixed Doubles Quarterfinals (Sept. 7)
NEW YORK – Alabama women's tennis alumna Alexa Guarachi will compete in the US Open mixed doubles quarterfinals Tuesday. Guarachi is making her first appearance at the US Open in mixed doubles competition, playing alongside partner Neal Skupski.
Guarachi and Skupski face Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek after 12:35 p.m. CT at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Guarachi and Skupski opened the tournament with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (4) win over Samantha Stosur and Bruno Soares in the first round. The duo returned to the courts in round two to take a 6-7 (4), 6-1, 1-0 (8) win over Galina Voskoboeva and Nikola Cacic.
Guarachi also advanced to the quarterfinals in women's doubles after she and partner Desirae Krawczyk went 6-3, 6-2 against Nadiia Kichenok and Raluca Olaru.
