The Tide used six pitchers to combine for 13 strikeouts on the night
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Alabama baseball suffered a 3-2 loss at Southern Miss on Wednesday evening at Pete Taylor Park. The loss moves the Crimson Tide to 12-6 entering Southeastern Conference play.
Alabama was first to strike with a solo home run from Zane Denton in the first. Southern Miss knotted things up with a solo shot of their own in the bottom of the second and took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. The two teams would go scoreless until the top of the eighth when Alabama was able to score one. The Tide had the tying and go-ahead runs on base with two down before a check-swing strike-three call ended the rally.
Southern Miss reliever Tyler Stuart (2-0) picked up the win with 2.2 scoreless innings. Hagan Banks (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on one hit and a walk across 1.2 relief frames. Banks was followed by Jake Leger, Hunter Furtado, Hunter Hoopes and Hunter Ruth with the group combining for 4.1 scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts to keep the Tide within striking distance all evening.
