Alabama Rowing Travels to Texas for Big 12 Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Over three weeks since its last competition, Alabama Rowing will return to the water Sunday, May 14, on Lake Walter E. Long for the 2023 Big 12 Rowing Championships.

The scoring portion of the competition includes three Varsity Eight+ crews and a pair of Varsity Four+ boats. The Tide enters the Big 12 Championships receiving votes in this week's Pocock/CRCA Poll, along with conference-affiliate-foe Tennessee, while the two-time reigning national champion, Texas, enters the weekend ranked No. 2 in the nation.

The Crimson Tide has finished second in the conference championship in each of the last three seasons, with Alabama medaling in every race last year. Two of the Tide's five All-Big 12 honorees from the 2022 campaign are on this year's championship roster, with Ella Kemna and Gianna Rucki returning to the 1V8+ crew after earning a silver medal in last year's race.

The team with the highest combined score among the three automatic qualifier races - 1V8+, 2V8+ and 1V4+ - will receive the Conference's automatic qualifying spot at the 2023 NCAA Championship (May 26-28).

A live stream will be carried by Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The event is open to the public.
