Alabama Softball Italy Tour Blog
Alabama softball players, coaches and support staff will take a 10-day trip to Italy, the Crimson Tide's third international trip in the last decade.
"When I started at Alabama, I always thought traveling internationally with the team would be a great experience," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said, "and after previous trips to the Netherlands and Japan, I can attest that this is 100 percent true. This opportunity is priceless. Experiencing a different culture is one of the best things a young person can do."
The trip starts in Venice, a three-day stretch that includes a pair of doubleheaders against the Italian national team. From there, the Crimson Tide will travel through Ferrara, Bologna, Florence, Parma, Lake Como and Milan before returning home to Tuscaloosa.
Updates will be posted to the blog throughout our trip so check back every day!

Another great day of softball against Team Italy wrapped up our time in Venice. We are off to Bologna tomorrow!
Friday, July 21
On our way to Bologna after leaving Venice, we made a quick stop in Ferrara to tour the Castello Estense and then headed to the vineyard at Palazzona Di Maggio for an amazing tour. Not to mention, we had to celebrate Larissa Preuitt's birthday! We will take the train into Florence tomorrow for a day of exploring!
Saturday, July 22
After checking in to our hotel in Bologna last night, we took the train into Florence for a day trip. Everyone had a great time exploring (and shopping) the historic city streets.
Sunday, July 23
Another day of exploring, this time in Bologna. Everyone's inner chef came out as we took a cooking class at Portici Academy. Everyone's garganelli and tortelloni was delizioso! Tomorrow we check out of our hotel and have an afternoon in Parma before checking in at our next hotel at Lake Como.
Monday, July 24
En route to our next destination, we made a quick afternoon stop in Parma, famous for its Parmigiano Reggiano (parmesan cheese) and Prosciutto di Parma (Parma ham). A winding mountain road gave us a great preview of our next destination, Lake Como, which we'll get a full day to explore on Tuesday!
