
Alabama at 7-under Par Through 36 Holes at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional

With inclement weather forecasted Tuesday and Wednesday, the 13-team regional was forced to play the first and second rounds on Monday
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With inclement weather forecasted over the next two days, the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional was forced to play both the first and second rounds on Monday. By the time the horn sounded to halt play, Alabama was one of nine teams that completed all 36 holes and is currently in seventh position with a team score of 7-under par 553 (276-277).
Three Crimson Tide golfers currently rank among the top-25 individuals when play was halted Monday evening. Canon Claycomb is in a tie for 12th at 5-under par, with Thomas Ponder in 15th at 4-under and Jonathan Griz in 24th at 2-under.
The third and final round of the regional will begin at the completion of the second round, which will resume Tuesday morning at 6:45 a.m. CT. The third round will not begin any earlier than 9:30 a.m.

The Lineup
- Canon Claycomb finished with 10 birdies compared to five bogeys for a 36-hole total of 5-under par 135 (65-70)
- His opening round of 65 set a season-low mark and tied the second-lowest 18-hole mark of his career
- Thomas Ponder was a shot back of Claycomb with a 4-under 136 (67-69)
- With a pair of rounds in the 60s Monday, Ponder now has 10 rounds this season in the 60s which is tied for the team lead (JP Cave)
- Jonathan Griz also finished under par, closing the day with a two-round total of 1-under 139 (71-68)
- JP Cave is at 3-over par 143 (73-70) and in a tie for 43rd while Jones Free rounds out the Tide golfers in 69th with a 153 (79-74)
NCAA Chapel Hill Regional Day One Highlights
- The first round of the regional began at 7:30 a.m. Monday and the start of the second round was moved from Tuesday to Monday afternoon due to the forecast of bad weather over the next two days. The second round began at 2 p.m. with play suspended due to darkness at 8:15 p.m.
- Four of the 13 teams and all 10 individuals have holes to play to finish the second round, the resumption of which is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. That includes seven groups of players who have between one and four holes to play.
- ETSU (-21) was three shots behind North Carolina after the first round but surged to a three-stroke advantage over Clemson (-18) and eight over the third-place Tar Heels (-13)
- Baylor (-11) is fourth and Georgia Tech (-10) and Long Beach State (-10) are tied for fifth
- Ball State is five shots behind the Tide in eighth (-2), with Loyola Marymount (E), Michigan State (+2), VCU (+4), Northwestern (+11) and Howard (+29) rounding out the field, respectively
- The Crimson Tide has advanced to nationals 12 times under head coach Jay Seawell, securing back-to-back national championship titles in 2013 and 2014
