Six Crimson Tide players reach double figures led by Amari Allen’s 19 points and five assists
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -Â The Alabama men's basketball team defeated Ole Miss 92-84 in the annual Ballin' in Boutwell exhibition game on Thursday night. The Crimson Tide shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Rebels, 45-28, to improve to 2-0 in the preseason.
Alabama was led by preseason All-SEC performer Amari Allen's 19 points and five assists. Freshman Cole Cloer added 18 of his own going 4-of-8 from three-point range and dishing out four assists himself.Â
Ole Miss was led by Corey Stephenson's 25 points off the bench and Budd Clark's 15 points and seven assists.Â
Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame CommentsÂ
"There's a reason we play good teams in the exhibitions, it helps to expose some stuff that we need to work on as a team. Our transition defense was not the best but our rebounding in the first half was great. Turnovers were a disaster tonight, we had 20 of them and four guys with three or more. Only two guys who played tonight did not have any turnovers.Â
"Ole Miss did a good job hanging in there. We had a couple chances to put them away and just couldn't. They had a 10-0 run before we scored the last bucket of the first half. We started the game well but closed the first half terribly, and the start of the second half was not good on defense.Â
"We need to get better but it's good that we are playing them. (Ole Miss head coach) Coach (Chris) Beard is one of the best defensive coaches in the country and their team did a great job defensively tonight. It is good for our young guys to learn and get prepared in these types of games. Some of our guys did well offensively against Furman but did not prepare the best coming into today. So it is important we have these games to learn how to prepare."
