The Crimson Tide had four players score double figures
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The RV/RV Alabama men's basketball team capitalized on a 13-point halftime lead to defeat South Carolina for the 11th straight time, 89-75, Saturday night inside Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide shot 55 percent (16-of-29) from the field in the first half and led for the final 29 minutes of the game, capturing its fourth straight win.
Alabama (18-7, 8-4 SEC) was led by Aden Holloway's 20 points on four made three-pointers, four rebounds and three assists. Labaron Philon Jr. and Latrell Wightsell Jr. each poured in 19 points, as the trio accounted for 58 of UA's 89 points.
South Carolina (11-14, 2-10 SEC) was guided by Meechie Johnson's 26 points and Kobe Knox's 21-point, six-rebound and six-assist effort.
Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"Good win for us, four in a row now. There was a lot of stuff we didn't do great, but we did enough to get a win in SEC play. Our three guards scored pretty well and they took care of the ball a little better in the second half. Twenty assists and 12 turnovers, we did a good job of moving the ball tonight.
Six straight games for us that we have had at least 12 threes, we are starting to shoot the ball like I thought we could. Getting Wrightsell healthy is a big part of that. Holloway and Philon are continuing to shoot the ball well. We got some really good energy off the bench when we didn't have the start we liked. Houston (Mallette) and Wrightsell came in and gave us a lift we needed. London (Jemison) rebounded well with Taylor Bol Bowen out.
I was not happy with our defense on Meechie Johnson in the second half. He had two points at halftime and ended up with 24 in the second. Multiple guys didn't play him the way they were supposed to. We've got to get a good defensive intensity about us. We're still not there yet, so we'll keep pushing and trying to get better."
