Fourteen event titles were won by the Crimson Tide as eight different edits were made to the program’s all-time top-10 lists
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field dominated its annual home meet, the Crimson Tide Invitational, accumulating 14 event titles on Friday.
Five UA student-athletes who claimed an event title also made an edit into the program's all-time top-10 list. Catalina Rodriguez's first-place performance of 63.21 meters (207-4) in the women's hammer throw became the fifth-farthest mark in UA history. Ellie Partrick's PR of 55.34 meters (181-7) on her opening attempt in the women's javelin maintained her standing at No. 2 all-time, while Amelia Johnson's PR-clearance of 4.13 meters (13-6.50) in the women's pole vault moved her to No. 6 all-time. On the track, Caren Kiplagat's 4:12.23 run in the women's 1,500m became the fifth-fastest time in school history, as David Thid's first-place finish of 50.59 in the men's 400-meter hurdles landed him at No. 10 all-time.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"First of all, it was a great day with great weather. I was excited to see our athletes compete this weekend. There absolutely is home field advantage and we showed it here today. The kids came out here with an intent to compete really hard, and they did just that. I don't know how many events we won, but a good number of them and we had a number of PR (performances). Overall, it was a good day. Obviously, we have to continue to get better and better but for this point in the season, I think we're tracking exactly where we want to be.
"It takes a lot to put on this kind of meet, so I always want to say thank you for all the help that we get. Almost every single person in the athletic department has touched this home meet in one way or another and their contributions, and how they show up, is really special; the kids appreciate it."
Waters on the 2026 Crimson Tide Senior Class
"(These seniors have) meant everything to us. They've been with us for so long and have been the heart and soul of our team for the years they've been here. It's kind of emotional saying goodbye to this class. They always run well at home and it's their last competition here, so they want to put their best into it. You think of athletes like Patrick Daves, Christopher Crawford and Doris (Lemngole) – just what a special person she's been to us for all these years. So it's hard to say goodbye to them because of the contributions and how we got to know them and treat them like family."
