The Crimson Tide ends the weekend tied with Oklahoma for first place in the SEC
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball secured its second straight SEC series sweep with a 4-0 shutout over Kentucky Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama's (42-4, 15-3 SEC) series sweep over Kentucky (25-25, 1-20 SEC) was its second straight in SEC play and its third overall, the Crimson Tide's most series sweeps in league play since 2021. The shutout was Alabama's 19th this season and its fourth in SEC play, doing so behind 4.2 solid innings from Kaitlyn Pallozzi (8-0) making her first career SEC start while Jocelyn Briski picked up her second save of the season behind her. The pair allowed just four hits on the day and, as the rest of the Tide pitching staff had done in the previous two games, gave up zero walks.
Brooke Wells had a pair of RBI doubles to drive in Alexis Pupillo each time, who reached base safely in all four of her plate appearances on three walks and a single. The Tide's remaining two RBIs came off the bats of Marlie Giles and Salen Hawkins, with Giles extending her hitting streak to seven games and he reached base streak to 16 games.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I'm really pleased with our freshman, Kaitlyn Pallozzi, who pitched a great five innings for us. She gave us a start when we absolutely needed it and left with her first SEC win. Offensively, we mixed in a couple of really good at-bats, but the two in the order that were outstanding were Alexis Pupillo at the leadoff and Brooke Wells right behind her. Those two together are a deadly combination."
