The world-leading 44.02 time in the men’s 400m set the Nigerian national record, the Alabama school record and ranks as the seventh-fastest time in NCAA history
ATHENS, Ga. – Samuel Ogazi closed Alabama track and field's outdoor regular-season finale with a world-leading 44.02 in his season debut in the men's 400 meters. The mark set the Nigerian national record, the UA school record and ranks as the seventh-fastest time in NCAA history.
Running in the same heat at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial, Ogazi and Georgia's Jonathon Simms both crossed the line in 44.02, with Simms ultimately being awarded the victory by only 0.005 seconds.
On the women's side, javelin thrower Ellie Partrick highlighted the day by finishing as the top collegiate performer in the event for the fourth consecutive meet of her sophomore season.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"This weekend was a good opportunity for us to close out the regular season and get some quality competition. Samuel's performance [in the 400m] was obviously a big highlight – that's a significant mark both globally and nationally, especially in his season debut. We saw some solid efforts across the board, in multiple events, and now our focus shifts to preparing for SEC Championships."
