Mike Morrison enters his fourth season on the Alabama coaching staff in 2026-27, operating as both an assistant coach and the program's recruiting coordinator. Morrison focuses primarily on the Crimson Tide's recruiting efforts while also supporting the development of Alabama's pitching staff.
University of Alabama head baseball coach Rob Vaughn officially announced the hiring of Mike Morrison on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Morrison, who spent the 2022-23 seasons at Maryland, was the third addition to Vaughn's Crimson Tide coaching staff, joining associate head coach Jason Jackson and assistant coach Anthony Papio.
Alabama - Assistant Coach (2024-Present)
- Played a large role in the Tide's 42-21 record in 2026 and its first Men's College World Series berth since 1999
- Assisted in organizing a pitching staff that managed a collective 4.34 earned run average, the third-lowest ERA in the SEC and the 21st ranked ERA in Division I
- Alabama hurlers totaled 546 strikeouts in 2026, the fifth-most strikeouts in a single season in team history
- Recruited and helped oversee the breakout season of freshman Myles Upchurch, who was responsible for a 3.75 ERA (30 ER/72.0 IP) in 16 games, including 15 starts
- Upchurch ended his rookie season with an 8-3 record, adding 78 strikeouts with 41 walks and was one of only six Division I freshmen to make at least 15 starts in 2026
- Upchurch eventually garnered Freshman All-SEC status and received Freshman All-American honors from D1Baseball.com, Baseball America, Perfect Game USA and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) season
- Upchurch was later invited to the 2026 USA Collegiate Baseball National Team Training Camp
- Helped retain and guide eventual 1st-round pick Justin Lebron, who was chosen 18th overall by the Cincinnati Reds

- Fay, who earned Second Team All-SEC status, was a former walk-on that developed into the Crimson Tide's Friday night starter in 2026
- Fay totaled 127 strikeouts, the second-most in a single season in program history, and led all SEC arms with 109.0 IP
- Led the recruitment of LSU transfer Brady Neal in 2024, who was chosen in the 8th round by the Cincinnati Reds after earning Second Team All-SEC honors as a senior
- Helped steer the development of reliever Hagan Banks, who posted a career-best 3.09 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen, adding six saves in as many tries
- Banks later signed with the Minnesota Twins as an undrafted free agent
- Targeted outfielder Bryce Fowler out of the transfer portal prior to the 2024 campaign, with Fowler later signing a free-agent contract with the Minnesota Twins
- Orchestrated the recruitment of nine top-500 players according to Perfect Game USA in Alabama's 2026 signing class, including Hudson DeVaughan (125th overall), Wyatt Williams (196th overall), Ray Lopez (209th overall), Brooks Berry (235th overall), Tate Troxell (236th overall), Bubba Coleman (252nd overall), Arian Vargas (302nd overall), Chandler Taylor (376th overall), and Jaser Arms (403rd overall)
- The Tide's 2026 signing class ranked 19th among all Division I programs
- Assisted in guiding the Crimson Tide to a 41-18 finish in 2025
- In 2025, Alabama pitchers recorded 536 strikeouts, the sixth-most in program history
- Fostered the development of Riley Quick, who posted a 3.92 ERA (27 ER/62.0 IP) with 70 strikeouts in his lone season in the weekend rotation

- The Tide's 2025 MLB Draft picks also included Kade Snell (5th round, 151st overall) and Richie Bonomolo Jr. (7th round, 224th overall), both of whom were targeted by Morrison in the transfer portal
- Snell led the Tide in batting average (.363) and hits (77) in 2025, leading to Second Team All-American honors from ABCA/Rawlings as well as First Team All-SEC honors from the league coaches
- Snell was also a First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region selection
- Bonomolo Jr. posted a .311 average while starting all 59 games in center field, leading Alabama in walks (40)
- Braylon Myers, the Tide's most-used relief arm in 2025, posted a career year, managing a 2.63 ERA (12 ER/41.0 IP) with 58 strikeouts to 14 walks, later joining the Chicago Cubs as an undrafted free agent
- Pushed Carson Ozmer to break the program's single-season saves mark, recording 17 saves in 29 outings and earning All-SEC honors
- Ozmer's 17 saves also paced the nation
- Oversaw the Tide's recruiting efforts, leading to Alabama producing the eighth-ranked 2025 recruiting class according to Perfect Game USA
- Landed three top-100 players according to PG, including Caleb Barnett (No. 35), Eric Hines (No. 43) and Myles Upchurch (No. 78), standing as one of only seven programs nationwide to sign at least three top-100 players

- Aided a pitching staff that recorded six shutouts in 2024, standing as one of only 13 teams to manage at least six shutouts
- Worked with right-hander Ben Hess, who compiled a 13.9 strikeout per nine innings ratio (101 K's/68.2 IP) in the Tide's weekend rotation
- Hess' strikeout per nine innings average was the second-best figure in the SEC and 10th-best mark in Division I
- Hess was eventually selected 26th-overall in the 2024 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees, one of three Alabama pitchers chosen last summer

- LHP Greg Farone was selected in the 7th round (208th overall) by the San Francisco Giants while RHP Pierce George heard his name called by the Chicago White Sox in the 13th round (379th overall)
- Freshman southpaw Zane Adams was named to the 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team after accumulating 58.2 innings in his rookie season, the third-highest innings total among the Crimson Tide staff
- The freshman left-hander's first campaign was highlighted by an eight-inning shutout of then-No. 1 Arkansas on April 14 to secure the series win
Maryland - Assistant Coach (2022-23)
- Served as the Terps' pitching coach for two seasons under Vaughn
- Saw UMD compile 90 wins across his tenure
- His work on the mound helped Maryland post a 42-21 record and earn an NCAA Regional bid in 2023
- The Terps' pitching staff was led by Jason Savacool, who paced the Big Ten in wins (9) while ranking second in innings pitched (96.0) and fourth in strikeouts (95)
- Savacool earned second team All-Big Ten honors and was joined by Nick Dean (third team) and Kyle McCoy (freshman) on the all-conference rosters
- Morrison's pitching staff contributed in a big way to one of the most successful seasons in Maryland history in 2022
- Helped UMD record a school-record 48 wins while claiming the Big Ten regular season title on the way to hosting an NCAA Regional
- His weekend rotation of Dean, Savacool and Ryan Ramsey excelled, each earning postseason honors
- Ramsey was named a second team All-American and first team All-Big Ten, finishing with 11 wins which were the second-most in Maryland history
- The Terps' ace also limited opposing hitters to a .193 mark and tossed a perfect game during that '22 season, one of only 36 pitchers in NCAA Division I history and just the 21st nine-inning perfect game in history up to that point
- Savacool also garnered All-America recognition from multiple outlets in '22 while being tabbed to the All-Big Ten First Team, finishing his sophomore campaign ranked in the top-five on Maryland's single-season lists for innings pitched, strikeouts and wins
- Dean closed out his '22 season with third team All-Big Ten accolades
Coastal Carolina - Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development and Scouting (2020-21)
- Worked as the Chanticleers' pitching coaching during the 2021 season
- Began his time at his alma mater as Coastal's Director of Player Development and Scouting in 2020
