Tide's Brovold Finishes 25th Amidst Powerful Field

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - Competing against a field that includes the No. 1 ranked team and where 15 of the 18 teams are ranked in the top 30, the University of Alabama's Lars Brovold shot two under par in Sunday's final round to finish tied at 25th at the 2003 Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges tournament.
The event marked the season opener for the Crimson Tide men's golf team.
Brovold shot 71-78-70/291 to finish the tournament at three over par.
Top five ranked Florida bested the field which included top ranked and defending national champions Clemson. The Gators shot 290-280-284/854 to fish ten under par. TCU was second at five under par (859), Clemson and Southern California finished in a tie at third with 871, followed by South Carolina (872), Georgia (874), Oklahoma (877), Wake Forest (881), Georgia Tech (883), North Carolina (886), Tennessee (890), Kansas (892), Tulsa (893), Auburn (899), at 15th Alabama (901), Illinois (904), East Tennessee State (905) and Virginia Tech (915).
Wake Forest's Bill Haas, son of pro golfer Jay Haas, won the tournament's individual championship. He finished at ten under par, shooting 67-68-71/206 on the par 72 course at the Ridges.
In addition to Brovold, four other golfers represented Alabama in the tournament. Daniel Creel finished tied at 41st (75-74-74/223); Clint Provost tied at 47th (73-78-73/224); Sean Szerencsits tied at 83rd (80-81-74/235) and Lance Walker finished 91st (81-82-79/242).
Alabama will next compete at the September 22-23 Mason Rudolph intercollegiate hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville.
