BIRMINGHAM – The Southeastern Conference unveiled its inaugural women’s basketball preseason All-SEC teams and Alabama senior guard Monique Bivins garnered second team recognition.
The preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players each, voted on by the SEC Head Women’s Basketball Coaches. Ties were not broken.
“Preseason polls are really only a projection of expectations,” said UA head coach Rick Moody. “Being selected at the end of the year is a reflection of your accomplishments. However, I am very proud of Monique for getting this honor. I think it shows her what the coaches around this league think of her and it also gives her a goal to shoot for and live up to this season.”
Bivins, a 5-9 native of Alabaster, Ala., is the Tide’s top returning scorer from last season having averaged 14.4 points a game. She earned second team All-SEC accolades at the end of last year.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is currently preparing for the start of the 2004-05 season. Alabama will play an exhibition game against EA Sports on Nov. 9 before getting things rolling for real on Nov. 19 versus Michigan at Coleman Coliseum.
