Alabama Swimming and Diving Signs Daniel Armstrong
TUSCALOOSA, Ala ??The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving program signed Daniel Armstrong to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Eric McIlquham. Armstrong will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2007-2008 season.
“Daniel is the best all around male high school swimmer in the state of Alabama,” McIlquham said. “He is the defending state champion in the 200 IM and is looking to win a couple of events this year. Daniel will be a good asset to our programs, both during the regular season as well as postseason. He has a tremendous feel for the water and huge potential.”
Armstrong led Bob Jones High School to two state titles and was the team captain in 2005 and 2006 as well as MVP in 2004 and 2005. He holds the state record in the 200 IM and is an All-American and Scholastic All-American.
“ I chose Alabama because I got along well with the coaches and team,” Armstrong said. “I loved the campus, as well as the athletic facilities. I feel that Alabama will give me the education I need to be successful.”
A native of Madison, Ala., he swims for Mike Gunner at Bob Jones. Armstrong also swims for the Madison Swim Association for Roger von Jouanne.
Alabama Swimming and Diving Signs Cosma Catalin
TUSCALOOSA, Ala ??The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving program signed Cosma Catalin to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Eric McIlquham. Catalin will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2007-08 season.
“I look for Cosma to make a large immediate impact,” McIlquham said. “He excels in a wide range of events and can show up pretty much anywhere in our line up as well as all relays.”
He has led his club team, CSM Pitesti to the Romanian national club titles since 2001. He holds Romanian Junior and Senior National records.
A native of Arad, Romania, Catalin competes for Gica Deac at CSM Pitesti.
Alabama Swimming and Diving Signs James Edwards
TUSCALOOSA, Ala ??The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving program signed James Edwards to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Eric McIlquham. Edwards will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2007-08 season.
“James is a very explosive athlete out of Memphis, Tennessee,” McIlquham said. “He is going to add to our sprint program and I look for him to be a valuable asset both in individual events and the relays.”
A two-time All-American, Edwards was named MVP of his squad and was named the Commercial Appeal's "Best of the Preps". He was member of the 2006 Tennessee State Champion 200 freestyle relay squad.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Edwards competes for David Smith at Memphis Tigers Swimming as well as Christian Brothers High School.
Alabama Swimming and Diving Signs Steven Loccisano
TUSCALOOSA, Ala ??The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving program signed Steven Loccisano to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Eric McIlquham. Loccisano will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2007-2008 season.
“Steven is a good sized sprinter out of Virginia,” McIlquham. “He is a very explosive athlete who will be able to help us in both the individual and the relay events. He will be a great asset to our program.”
Loccisano is a three-time MVP at Riverbend High School and earned All-Area honors in 2006. He owns multiple school, club and district records.
“I chose Alabama because I felt comfortable in the environment and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges the University of Alabama presents,” Loccisano said.
A native of Fredericksburg, Va., he attends Riverbend High School where he swims for Maggie Lancaster. Loccisano also swims for the Rappahannock Sting Rays for Bob Herlinger.
Alabama Swimming and Diving Signs Daniel Rozick
TUSCALOOSA, Ala ??The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving program signed Daniel Rozick to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Eric McIlquham. Rozick will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2007-2008 season.
“Daniel is a great young man who is going to add to our tremendous distance program,” McIlquham. “I look for Daniel to see a lot of action next season and be a huge contributor for the next four years.”
A two-time All-American, Rozick won a state title as part of the 400 freestyle relay and is a U.S. Junior National qualifier in the 400, 800 and 1500m freestyles.
“Alabama felt the most right to me out of all the schools,” Rozick said. “All the kids on the team were great when I was there and the coaches are great coaches and great people in general. The warm weather is a plus.”
A native of State College, Penn., he attends State College Area High School where she swims for Peter Myer and Todd Roth. Rozick also swims for the Big Cat Aquatics team for John Larson.
