TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama women's soccer team present its new athlete for 11 questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The eighth edition features sophomore midfielder Brooke Rogers.
Rolltide.com: This season you have really been a threat off the bench in SEC play ... how have you taken advantage of that role?
Rogers: As a player off the bench I know my teammates are looking for me to bring energy to the game so I always try to do so. Also, getting to watch the game unfold for a little bit allows me to enter with a clear mindset of what needs to happen.
Rolltide.com: As a freshman you were one of the leaders in scoring ... what enabled you to be successful that quickly?
Rogers: We definitely had a midfield that worked hard to get good passes in to our forwards. I struggled a lot to score against the tougher SEC defenses, which is where a lot of my focus in the off season went.
Rolltide.com: You are one of the team-leaders in assists this season with a career-high... what has been the difference on the offense this season?
Rogers: Our team as a whole is on the same page this year. Our offense works cohesively from our defenders through to the forwards and that allows for all of us to make things happen.
Rolltide.com: You are one of six girls on the team from Cincinnati, Ohio ... how familiar were you with the other players that are here and what is it like having that many from your hometown?
Rogers: It's a lot of fun having people from Cincinnati here. I knew Ashley Scheidt from a rival club team, and played with Carly Mygrants on my own club team. I knew of most of the other girls, but didn't really get to know them until I got down here.
Rolltide.com: How has the new coaching staff been and how is the transition?
Rogers: The new coaching staff has really turned around our program. The transition was smooth, but required a lot of difficult work on our teams behalf. Luckily all of the players were willing to put forth the effort that was needed to help our team improve.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a favorite professional soccer team and why?
Rogers: I really like Manchester United, but watching any of the English Premier League is always fun.
Rolltide.com: If you could play another sport in college what would it be?
Rogers: If I could play another sport I would play basketball. I'm a terrible basketball player but the rest of my family plays so I always wish I had it in me.
Rolltide.com: What is on your IPOD right now?
Rogers: Definitely Lil Wayne, and some Kenny Chesney of course.
Rolltide.com: What is your favorite pregame meal?
Rogers: I like keeping it simple with a turkey sandwich and some fruit.
Rolltide.com: When and why did you start playing the game of soccer?
Rogers: I started playing soccer when I was about three years old. I think just about everyone plays at that age but I managed to stick with it.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to go to the University of Alabama?
Rogers: The athletic programs all around at the University are unbeatable. We could not be luckier and it has provided such a good opportunity for me to play the game I love and get a good education at the same time!
