TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - It was another week of training for the Crimson Tide swimming and diving squads with the training regime remaining on its high intensity setting on the heels of the Tide's strong two-meet swing through Louisiana.
"We cranked up the volume this week, really hammering out some long course training as we get ready for the Auburn meet coming up," head coach Eric McIlquham said. "It was actually a pretty tough week, but the kids did really well."
While the vast majority of collegiate meets are competed over a 25-yard course, most teams that have the facilities to do so will mix up their training, especially during the fall, going both short course and long course (50-meters) during the course of the week. The Olympics, and most international meets are competed long course.
Alabama swimmers will welcome the Auburn Tigers to the Don Gambril Olympic Pool this weekend for a two-day, three-session meet, while the divers head to Atlanta, Ga. for the three-day Georgia Tech Invitational, where they will see, among others, Auburn. The swim meet, which will be competed long course gets underway Friday at noon.
