"I am really proud of how we traveled," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "We started out the game with our best half all season and were in their defensive third the whole time. They changed their tactics in the second half but we were able to weather the storm. We held on for the win. This was a hard fought weekend and it shows clear progress for the program."
Alabama continues its hot start to league action as it has put together its longest unbeaten streak to begin SEC play since it rattled off six straight wins in 1995. The Tide has now earned at least a point against four of the five SEC Western Division foes and sit atop the division standings.
Just under two minutes after subbing into the contest, sophomore Lindsey Sillers scored her first career goal. Sillers buried a Victoria Frederick cross in the 36th minute to give the Tide the early 1-0 lead. The helper was the fifth on the season for the senior.
Five minutes later Frederick would be on the scoring end, giving Alabama a 2-0 cushion at the half. The senior forward blasted a low drive shot past Razorback goalkeeper Britni Williams for her second tally of the season.
Arkansas pulled within one and scored the first goal against Alabama since Sept. 10. Laurel Pastor recorded the goal on a tap in from a few feet out in the 80th minute. The Tide went 550 minutes without allowing a goal and Tide net-minder Justine Bernier saw her scoreless streak end at 561 minutes.
Arkansas outshot Alabama 17-12 with Pastor leading the way with a game-high five shots. Four different Tide players fired off two shots apiece.
Bernier allowed her first goal since the season opener on Aug. 20 but did break the career save mark by recording her 304th save on the strength of five stops Sunday. She eclipses the mark of 301 held by Amy Pseja.
Alabama will return home and play in front of the TV cameras as it will host Florida on Friday, Oct. 8, with the broadcast set to air on Fox Sports South at 7 p.m. Alabama will then host South Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.
