OMAHA, Neb. - Alabama sophomore center fielder Taylor Dugas was named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches All-America team, while Dugas and junior shortstop Josh Rutledge were named to the 2010 ABCA All-South Region Team, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Taylor and Josh both had outstanding years and we are very proud of them," Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "I don't know of a better one-two punch than these two guys at the top of the lineup. The things they accomplished this season are truly amazing. They both had solid years for us and were major contributors in our success this season."
Dugas, who was named a second-team All-American by the ABCA, started all 67 games this season and hit a team-leading .395 (96-for-243) with two home runs and 37 RBI. He led the SEC with a .525 on-base percentage and 59 walks from the leadoff spot in the batting order.
He led the Crimson Tide in seven offensive categories, including batting average (.395), on-base percentage (.525), runs scored (70), triples (5), walks (59), stolen bases (19) and plate appearances (326). Defensively, he led the Crimson Tide with five outfield assists.
A 2010 first-team All-SEC selection, Dugas hit a team-leading .407 (44-for-108) in conference play with one home run and 17 RBI in 30 starts. He led the SEC with a .545 on-base percentage and 27 walks.
The Lafayette, La., native has been invited to Team USA Baseball Trials this summer, where he will compete for a spot on the USA National Team. Dugas reached base safely in 65 of 67 games this season, including a 47-game on-base streak from March 14 to May 29. He hit safely in 52 of 67 games and scored in 48 of 67 games this season.
Dugas was named first-team All-American by Baseball America earlier this summer.
Rutledge joins Dugas on the 2010 ABCA All-South Region squad after he hit .360 (107-for-297) with 10 home runs and 69 RBI in 67 games. He led the Crimson Tide in seven offensive categories and ranked first or second in 15 offensive categories this past season.
He broke Andy Phillips' single-season record for most RBI by a shortstop with his team-leading 69 RBI this season. Phillips had 66 RBI in 1999. Rutledge was the first UA shortstop to lead the team in RBI since Steve Houlberg paced the club in 1978.
Rutledge was a 2010 first-team All-SEC selection and was a semifinalist for the 2010 Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to the top collegiate shortstop. His 107 hits tied G.W. Keller (1999) for the second-most in Alabama history. David Magadan, who will be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame later this week, holds the single-season record with 114 hits in 1983.
Rutledge finished sixth with 279 career hits, trailing only Andy Phillips (322, 1996-99), Brent Boyd (313, 1999-2002), Joe Caruso (309, 1994-97), Jeremy Brown (307, 1999-2002) and G.W. Keller (292, 1997-99) on the all-time list. He also posted 85 career multi-hit games, 38 career multi-RBI games and 66 career two-out RBI.
In 30 SEC games, Rutledge hit .353 (49-for-139) with five home runs and 33 RBI. He led the Crimson Tide in hits and RBI in conference play. He hit safely in 29 of the 30 SEC games and posted a 21-game hitting streak in conference play.
