TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team completed its 2011 fall exhibition schedule with a pair of run-rule victories over North Georgia (8-0, 5 Inn.) and Tennessee State (8-0, 6 Inn.). The second game of the twin bill featured a combined no-hit performance by freshmen Jadyn Spencer and Leslie Jury.
"I'm really thrilled with the performance of Jadyn (Spencer) and (Leslie) Jury," head coach Patrick Murphy said. "Any time you get a no-hitter it is a great outing and for them to combine for in both of their first outings in Tuscaloosa is outstanding. Our defense was exceptional today as well."
Game One - North Georgia
The Crimson Tide started the day out with some small ball plating Kayla Braud in the first. After the All-American drew a leadoff bunt single, she stole second and was advanced to third by a Jennifer Fenton groundout. Braud came home on an RBI single by freshman Danae Hays.
Alabama scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings, before clinching the run-rule win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Keima Davis had the big hit in the fifth, with a two run double to left center scoring Danielle Richard and Kaila Hunt to push the Tide to the clinching 8-0 lead.
Jackie Traina picked up the victory in the circle, tossing a three-hit shutout while striking out eight.
Game Two - Tennessee State
The second game of the day for Alabama was a pitcher's duel for the first four and a half innings. The Tide scored one in the bottom of the first when a Spencer sacrifice fly scored Richard. It would be the only run produced until the fifth inning.
The Alabama bats caught fire in the bottom of the fifth with runs from Ryan Iamurri, Richard, Hunt, Fenton and Jackey Branham.
Alabama closed the game out in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back RBI hits by Hunt and Spencer to give the Crimson Tide its final 8-0 score.
Jury picked up the win for the Tide in her first appearance at Rhoads Stadium. Spencer and Jury combined for the no-hitter.
