Six-Run Third Highlights 8-1 Win for White in Game One of “Steak and Beans” World Series

White used a solid pitching effort and a huge third inning to secure the victory
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A six-run third inning pushed White to an eventual 8-1 win over Crimson in game one of the "Steak and Beans" World Series on Thursday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings, but White exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third to break the tie. Tanner Boyzuick led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Walker McCleney. Gene Wood followed with a single to short that bounced into no man's land in left, allowing Boyzuick to cross for the inning's first run and chase Crimson starter, Jake Walters.
After the change on the mound, Cobie Vance walked to load the bases for Cody Henry, who followed with a double to score a pair and make it 3-0. Kyle Kaufman notched a double in the next at-bat, to score two more, and moved himself to third on the throw home in the same sequence. A sacrifice fly from Boyzuick brought Kaufman across to end the scoring run and made it a 6-0 game after three.
Crimson struck for a run of its own in the top of four, when Sam Finnerty used a leadoff walk and a stolen base to put himself in scoring position. Camden Bauer scored Finnerty with a single to center to narrow the gap to 6-1, but White would counter again in the bottom of the fourth.
The White squad plated a pair in the home half of the fourth to make it an 8-1 contest. A triple from Connor Stutts was followed by a Cobie Vance single for the inning's first run. Vance would move up a base and then come home on Kaufman's second hit of the day, a single, to move the lead to 8-1, the eventual final in six full frames on play.
Tyler Adams finished off the game with a 1-2-3, three-strikeout sixth to secure the win for White and highlight a solid all-around pitching effort on the day by the home team. Nick Eicholtz got the start for White and was followed by Davis Vainer, Mike Oczypok and Adams.
Game two of the World Series is scheduled for a 3 p.m. CT start on Friday afternoon. Following the second game of the series, the two teams will play a third game to close out the fall on Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 10:30 a.m. CT.
