Crimson Tide Women’s Basketball Faces Georgetown in First Road Game of the Season

Tip set for 1 p.m. CT in McDonough Arena
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team (7-0) will play its first road game of the 2016-17 season on Sunday when it takes on the Georgetown Hoyas (7-2) in Washington, D.C. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. CT tip in McDonough Arena.
THE BROADCAST
- Sunday's game will be available on a live stream via GUHoyas.com.
- The game will also be available on the Crimson Tide Sports Network on 100.1 FM locally, with Roger Hoover and Tyler Williams calling all the action.

OPENING TIP
- Alabama is playing its first road game of the 2016-17 season Sunday when it takes on the Georgetown Hoyas at McDonough Arena. The Crimson Tide opened the year with seven consecutive home games, which is the longest home stretch to start a season in program history.
- The Tide is led in scoring by junior Meoshonti Knight, who is averaging 13.9 points per game. Sophomore Shaquera Wade paces Alabama in rebounding with 7.1 boards per contest, while freshman Jordan Lewis continues to be the team's leader in assists at 3.4 per outing.
- Alabama has four student-athletes averaging double-figure points thus far. Joining junior Meoshonti Knight (13.9 ppg) is sophomore Shaquera Wade (12.0 ppg) and juniors Hannah Cook (11.3 ppg) and Quanetria Bolton (10.7 ppg). Freshman Jordan Lewis is just outside with 9.9 points per contest.
- The Tide is currently outscoring its opponents by 37.0 points per game (82.9-45.9) and outrebounding the opposition by an average of 14.1 boards per contest (50.7-36.6).
- Alabama is 7-0 for the first time in 16 seasons. The Tide won its first nine games of the 2000-01 season before losing in overtime to Oklahoma State, 58-54, on Dec. 21.
- In last season's game against Georgetown, Hannah Cook led all scorers with 22 points, while Quanetria Bolton recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
CURRY COACHES IN GAME No. 100 AT ALABAMA
- Alabama's game against Kansas was head coach Kristy Curry's 100th game on the sidelines at Alabama.
- he enters today's contest with a 49-51 (.490) overall mark in her four seasons with the Tide, which includes a 36-13 (.735) record against non-conference opponents.
ALABAMA GOES UNDEFEATED IN NOVEMBER FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
- Alabama closed out its first month of the 2016-17 with a perfect 5-0 record, marking the second straight season the Crimson Tide has gone undefeated in November.
- In 2015, Alabama posted a 6-0 mark, which was the best start since the 2002 season.
LIMITING POINTS
- Alabama has held its opponents to 15 points or fewer in 25 of 29 periods, which includes one overtime, played this season.
- Even more impressive is that in 12 of those 29 quarters the Tide opposition has put up 10 points or fewer and in four quarters five points or fewer.
TIDE GETS BOOST FROM BENCH
- Alabama has one of the most productive benches it has had in the last several years, and that has been evident in both minutes and production on the stat sheet.
- Through seven games, the Tide's reserves have accounted for 194 points (27.7 ppg), 114 rebounds (16.3 rpg), 29 assists (4.1 apg), 24 blocks (3.4 bpg) and 17 steals (2.4 spg).
SEVEN GAMES … SIX DIFFERENT LEADING SCORERS
- Through seven games, Alabama has had six different leading scorers.
- In the opener, junior Meoshonti Knight led the way with 18 points.
- Freshman Jordan Lewis put up 21 in the Tide's second game, while junior Hannah Cook posted 13 to pace Alabama offensively in game No. 3.
- Junior Ashley Williams scored 19 in the win over Georgia Southern and sophomore Shaquera Wade chipped in a career-best 22 to lead the Tide over Alabama A&M.
- Against Alcorn State, junior Quanetria Bolton and Knight each added 18 points, and Bolton followed that up with another 18-point performance last time out versus Kansas.
FIRST HALF DOMINATION
- Alabama has scored 281 points in the first half of games this season, while its opponents have put up only 130.
- That averages out to 40.1 points at the half for the Tide compared to 18.6 for the opposition, a difference of 21.5 points.
BALANCED OFFENSE
- One of Coach Curry's team goals for the season is to have at least four in double-figure points each outing.
- The Crimson Tide reached that goal in four of its seven games this season as five recorded 10 or more points three times and four did so on one occasion.
- Alabama was just shy in its games against Georgia Southern, as three finished in double figures and one had eight, and Alcorn State, where three had double figures and two had nine points.
ALABAMA DOMINATING POINTS IN THE PAINT
- Through seven games, Alabama has outscored its opponents 310-118 in points in the paint. That averages out to 27.4 more points in the paint (44.3-16.9) for the Crimson Tide per game than the opposition.
CRIMSON TIDE RANKED IN THE TOP 10 NATIONALLY/TOP 3 IN THE SEC IN EIGHT CATEGORIES
- Through games played on Dec. 9, Alabama ranks in the top 10 nationally and the top three in the Southeastern Conference in eight different categories including scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal defense, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game, rebound margin and fewest fouls.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
- Georgetown started the season 1-2 but has won its last six contest and is undefeated at home thus far with wins at McDonough Arena against George Washington (72-57) and George Mason (69-56). The Hoyas remaining seven games were either played on the road or at a neutral site.
- Georgetown's two losses both came on the road, and they were decided by 10 points or less, falling 73-63 at Virginia Tech and 68-60 at Minnesota.
- Faith Woodard, Dionna White and Dorothy Adomako are responsible for the majority of the Hoyas' points and rebounds as the trio combines to average 22.0 of Georgetown's 41.4 rebounds and 46.3 of its 66.0 points per game. Woodard leads the way with averages of 15.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest. DiDi Burton currently paces the team in assists with 4.1 per game.
- As a team, the Hoyas as averaging 66.0 points per game and 41.1 rebounds per outing.
- Georgetown is under the direction of third-year head coach Natasha Adair. Last season, Adair's squad returned to the postseason for the first time since 2012, going 16-14 overall. The turnaround from the previous year was the third-best turnaround in the nation after the Hoyas posted a 4-27 mark in 2014-15. Adair is 62-74 overall in her five seasons as a head coach, with two of those years coming at the College of Charleston, and 27-43 in her three years at Georgetown.
