Alabama Women’s Tennis Set to Compete in 2017 Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

Tide set to take on No. 40 Tulsa on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT at O’Connor Tennis Center
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team (4-3) travels to Montgomery, Ala., this weekend for the 2017 Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, which is set to take place at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center and the O'Connor Tennis Center on Feb. 24-25., The Crimson Tide is set to take on No. 40-ranked Tulsa on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT at O'Connor Tennis Center.
The Crimson Tide won the two-day event in 2014 and 2015. Alabama outlasted Rice in a 4-3 thriller in 2014 to claim the championship, and in 2015 it topped Texas Tech in a 5-1 decision to earn back-to-back championships in the Blue Gray.
Last time out, the Tide fell to the TCU Horned Frogs in a 6-1 contest in Fort Worth, Texas. Alabama's lone match point came from the No. 2 singles position, as sophomore standout Andie Daniell defeated Donika Bashota in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
The Tide has an overall 20-13 singles record in dual match play, including two players that remain undefeated. Daniell leads the team with the most singles wins at 5-0, and she is 1-0 and 4-0 from the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively. Freshman Kimberley Gintrand also owns an undefeated record since beginning dual match play, and she is 1-0 with her lone victory coming from the No. 6 singles position.
Alabama boasts a 12-4 mark in doubles play since beginning the dual match season. The Tide is a perfect 4-0 from the No. 1 doubles slot and 4-2 from the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Tulsa enters Friday's contest with a 9-2 overall record. Last weekend, it defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in a 4-1 decision. The Golden Hurricane does not any players ranked in singles or doubles play.
When Alabama and Tulsa face each other on Friday it will mark the first time the two teams have met in program history.
The other teams in this year's field include No. 5 Texas Tech, No. 8 Auburn, No. 47 Texas, Denver and Tulane.
