Alabama Women’s Tennis Places Seven on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

The Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition after posting a 3.8 team grade point average during the 2016-17 academic year
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team had seven members of its 2016-17 squad earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete status this season while the Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition.
Seniors Erin Routliffe and Danielle Spielmann, junior Smith Hinton, sophomore Andie Daniell as well as freshmen Kimberley Gintrand, Maddie Pothoff and Juliana Valero all earned the individual honor while combining to earn a 3.82 team grade point average for the 2016-17 academic year.
The Crimson Tide's seven honorees ties for eighth among the 212 women's NCAA Division I schools that had at least one ITA Scholar-Athlete this season and first among Southeastern Conference teams.
Routliffe and Pothoff both earned ITA All-America honors on the court after reaching the finals of the NCAA Doubles competition while Spielmann was named the SEC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
