Alabama Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 4 Mississippi State, 75-61, Despite Cook’s Career Day

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Alabama women's basketball team fell to No. 4 Mississippi State, 75-61, on Sunday afternoon in Humphrey Coliseum.
With the loss, the Crimson Tide moves to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Bulldogs remain perfect on the year at 19-0 and 5-0 in SEC competition.
Senior Hannah Cook finished the game with a career-high 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including going a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the three-point line. Cook's career day moved her up to No. 10 all-time in career scoring at Alabama with 1,280 career points in her four-year career with the Tide. Sophomore Jasmine Walker also chipped in 10 points while grabbing four rebounds and three steals.
The Tide hung tough with the Bulldogs in the first quarter, battling back from an early 11-4 deficit to tie the game at 16-16 with 1:23 left in the opening period after Cook drained back-to-back three-pointers. On the next possession, Cook netted her eighth-straight point with a layup to give UA the 18-16 advantage. With time winding down in the first quarter, senior Quanetria Bolton tipped in a missed jumper to put the Tide up 20-16 at the end of 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs took control of the game by outscoring the Crimson Tide 28-9, to take the 44-29 advantage into halftime.
After halftime, Mississippi State continued to hold a double-digit lead in the second half, despite Alabama outscoring MSU 32-31 in the final 20 minutes of action.
Alabama shot 52 percent (22-of-42) from the field for the game and 77 percent (7-of-9) from beyond the arc in the loss.
The Tide will return to back home on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. CT to take on No. 17 Texas A&M in Coleman Coliseum. The game will air live on SEC Network+.
