Crimson Tide Women’s Basketball Falls at Auburn, 69-60

AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball came up short in Sunday's contest, falling, 69-60, to Auburn in Auburn Arena.
The Crimson Tide (14-8, 4-5 SEC) had four finish in double figures and outrebounded the Tigers (11-9, 2-6 SEC), 30-24, however Auburn took advantage of Alabama's 25 turnovers, scoring 29 points off the miscues.
"We just didn't take care of the ball," said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. "I thought Jordan Lewis played her guts out and only had four (turnovers) in 37 minutes when the ball is in her hands a whole lot. We just needed everybody around her to help us a little bit. We turned the ball over way too much. When you look at points off turnovers, it's 29, and that's the difference at the end of the day."
Lewis led the Tide in both scoring and assists as she finished with 15 and four, respectively. She was followed in scoring by senior Quanetria Bolton, who had 14, and senior Hannah Cook and junior Shaquera Wade, who each added 10. Bolton also recorded nine rebounds and three steals. The Tigers were led by junior Janiah McKay, who had a game-high 18 points, while freshman Unique Thompson had the game's lone double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Alabama got off to a hot start thanks to Bolton, who scored the first 10 points. The Tide remained on top for the duration of the period to lead, 21-16, at quarter's end.
In the second, Auburn used a 13-6 run to take the lead at the 6:32 mark. Alabama evened the score at 31 as Cook delivered from beyond the arc, however the Tigers would answer with a three of their own to hold a three-point advantage at halftime.
Auburn's lead reached double digits three minutes into the third as the Tigers scored seven straight in the frame. The Tide was able to cut its deficit down to five three times, with the third occurrence coming with 2:24 to go in the game, but Auburn would hold on after collecting six of the final eight points in the game.
Alabama returns to action on Sunday, February 4, when it hosts Arkansas in Coleman Coliseum. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT tip on the SEC Network.
