The Crimson Tide will look to bounce back on Sunday at No. 27 South Carolina
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alabama men's tennis team dropped its road match to No. 10 Florida 7-0 on Friday night at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
"We put ourselves in a position to win the doubles point and we put ourselves in a position to win the match without the doubles point," head coach George Husack said. "I'm very happy for the fight our guys displayed tonight against a very tough team. Opportunities don't happen by chance, but rather by creating them by challenging and trusting ourselves. We have another chance to do this on Sunday against South Carolina and I'm excited for what that day will bring."
The Crimson Tide (16-10, 2-9 SEC) hung tough with the Gators' (15-8, 9-3 SEC) nationally-ranked doubles pairs before UF stole the doubles point and won all six singles matches.
The Gators clinched the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot to take the 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, No. 47 Oliver Crawford moved past sophomore Thibault Cancel, 6-2, 6-0, to push the Gators' lead to 2-0. Later on, No. 12 Alfredo Perez took care of freshman Patrick Kaukovalta, 6-4, 6-4. UF clinched the match when No. 23 Johannes Ingildsen defeated No. 26 junior Mazen Osama at No. 1, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.
After the match was already clinched, the Gators finished out the night by winning the last three singles matches.
Next up, the Crimson Tide will travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on the No. 27 South Carolina on Sunday, April 15 at noon CT.
