
Alabama Track & Field Closes Bob Pollock Invitational with Eight Total Wins

The Crimson Tide tallied four wins on Saturday to finish out the two-day event, including a 1-2 finish in the women’s 4x400-meter relay
CLEMSON, S.C. – Alabama track and field closed out the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, S.C., with four wins Saturday, bumping its two-day total to eight wins to go with 30 top-eight finishes.
"It was a good weekend for us," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "It was great for Bobby (Colantonio) to earn his first win in an Alabama uniform and we showed a lot of strength in the women's shot put. Also, to take first and second in the women's 4x400-meter relay says a lot about our depth."
Freshman Bobby Colantonio Jr. notched the first win of his collegiate career, taking top honors in the men's weight throw with a toss of 69-06.75 (21.20 meters). Fellow freshman Kwemoi Ndiwa also earned a victory, taking first in the men's 600 meters after posting a time of 1:20.06.
Junior Shelby McEwen cleared 7-04.25 (2.24m) to grab his second win in as many outings in the high jump. Freshman Carl Nesbitt took sixth in the high jump after clearing 6-6.25 (1.99m).
The Crimson Tide finished one-two in the women's 4x400-meter relay with sophomore Daija Lampkin, junior Takyera Roberson, sophomore Tamara Clark and senior Mauricia Prieto getting the win with a 3:38.24. Juniors D'Jai Baker, Katie Funcheon, Natassha McDonald and Symone Darius finished second after crossing the line with a 3:39.97.
The Tide quartet of sophomore Champion Allison, senior Keitavious Walter, junior Stephan Holcombe and freshman Gabe Serrano finished runner-up in the men's 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:12.08.
Senior Will Herrscher earned a runner-up finish of his own, taking second in the men's pole vault after clearing 16-10.75 (5.15m).
Senior Stacey Destin was third in her first pentathlon of the season, tallying 4065 points. She finished third in the pentathlon's high jump, shot put and long jump and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles and 800 meters. Destin was also fourth (5-8.5/1.74m) and sophomore Esme Phillips (5-4.5/1.64m) was eighth in the women's high jump.
Senior Connor Ferrentino (8:25.78) and freshman Noel Rotich (8:29.18) posted top-eight finishes in the men's 3,000 meters, taking 6th and 8th, respectively.
On Friday, the Tide women picked up three wins, with Clark taking the 60-meter dash with a 7.23, Prieto earning top honors in the 300 meters after clocking a 38.03 and senior Portious Warren finishing first in the shot put with a toss of 56-08.5. On the men's side of the meet, Allison won the 400 meters with a 47.14.
Alabama returns to South Carolina next weekend, taking part in the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C., February 1-2.
