The Crimson Tide returns to the state of South Carolina after an eight-win performance at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A week after an eight-win performance at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, S.C., the Alabama track and field team is headed back to the Palmetto State, competing in the Carolina Challenge Feb. 1-2 in Columbia, S.C.
"We're looking to continue to get better every meet and continue to work on the little things that will help us get ready for championship season," UA head coach Dan Waters said.
Last week, sophomore Champion Allison (400 meters), freshman Bobby Colantonio Jr. (weight throw), junior Shelby McEwen (high jump) and freshman Kwemoi Ndiwa (600 meters) earned wins for the men's team at the Pollock Invitational.
On the women's side of the meet, sophomore Tamara Clark (60 meters) along with seniors Mauricia Prieto (300 meters) and Portious Warren (shot put) earned wins, while sophomore Daija Lampkin, junior Takyera Roberson, Clark and Prieto combined to win the 4x400-meter relay.
Last weekend marked Clark's second win in the 60 meters, McEwen's second high jump victory and Warren's second straight shot put win of the young season. It was also Alabama's second win in the women's 4x400-meter relay.
Nationally, Warren is fourth in the shot put with a throw of 56-08.5 (17.28m). Clark is ranked seventh in the 60 meters with a season-best time of 7.23, while McEwen is seventh in the high jump with a mark of 7-04.25 (2.24m). Senior Stacey Destin is also ranked in the top-10 nationally after scoring 4,065 points in her first pentathlon of the season in Clemson.
