Alabama Swimming and Diving Posts Fast Times During Fall Semester

The Crimson Tide broke eight school records and clocked 13 times that rank in the top-10 nationally during the fall semester
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – It was a fast semester for the Alabama swimming and diving teams, with the Crimson Tide breaking eight school records and posting 13 times that rank in the top-10 nationally during the fall.
Sophomore Rhyan White led the way, breaking four individual school records, including the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the 100 and 200 butterfly. She also swam the leadoff leg on the Tide's record-setting 200 medley relay. Junior Flora Molnar broke the school 100 freestyle record in the fall and was part of three relays that set new Alabama standards, joining White on the 200 medley relay and adding legs on the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
White, senior Zane Waddell and sophomore Kensey McMahon combined to post nine individual swims that rank in the top-10 nationally at this point in the season. The Tide also has four relays ranked in the top-10 nationally.
National Rankings
- Senior Zane Waddell posted the fastest time in the nation in the 50 backstroke, going 20.91 to make him the only swimmer under 21 seconds this season
- Waddell is also ranked fifth nationally in the 50 freestyle with a career-best 19.15, eighth in the 100 backstroke with a 45.46 and eighth in the 100 freestyle with a 42.76 in Atlanta
- Sophomore Rhyan White is ranked No. 2 in the 200 backstroke with her school-record 1:50.00
- White is also fifth in the 100 backstroke (51.12), fourth in the 50 backstroke (23.96) and 10th in the 100 butterfly (51.71), with the 100 backstroke and butterfly times setting school records
- White's school record 1:55.78 in the 200 butterfly is just outside the top-10 nationally at No. 12
- Junior Flora Molnar is also right outside the top-10, sitting 11th in the 100 butterfly after clocking a career-best 51.80 and 12th in the 100 freestyle with a school-record 47.98
- Sophomore Kensey McMahon is ranked No. 4 in the 1,000 freestyle with her 9:42.96 from the UA-UGA dual meet at the start of October, while her 16:03.38 in the 1,650 freestyle, the fourth-fastest mile in UA history, ranks her 10th in the nation
- The men's 200 medley relay of Waddell, senior Kyle Maas, junior Tyler Sesvold and sophomore Jonathan Berneburg rank fourth with a 1:24.43
- Waddell, freshman Liam Bell, Sesvold and Berneburg are ninth in the men's 400 medley relay with a time of 3:07.51
- The women's 400 freestyle relay of sophomores Morgan Scott and Julia Wolf, Molnar and senior Allie Surrency are ninth nationally with a school-record time of 3:14.26
- The women's school-record setting 200 medley relay of White, junior Kaila Wong, Molnar and Surrency are also ninth, with a time of 1:36.50
- The UA women also set a school record in the 800 freestyle relay in the fall, with senior Alexis Preski, McMahon, Scott and Molnar combining for a 7:08.69, which ranks 14th nationally
Alabama's All Time Top-10
- A total of 11 men and women combined to put 30 swims on Alabama's all-time top-10 lists during the fall semester, with White leading the way with five career-best swims, including four school records
- Senior Alexis Preski and Scott were next, with four spots each on the all-time top-10
- Preski tallied four career-best swims in the fall, ranking second all-time in the 500 freestyle (4:40.01) and 200 butterfly (1:57.46), fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.03) and 400 individual medley (4:10.99)
- Scott ranks fourth in the 100 backstroke (53.14), sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.45), ninth in the 100 freestyle (49.28) and 10th in the 50 freestyle (22.72)
