Both Crimson Tide golf teams will tee off the 2020 fall campaign on Monday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's golf teams will open the 2020 fall season on Monday morning when they compete at the Blessing Collegiate Invitational presented by Tyson Foods. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held Oct. 5-7 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
All three rounds of the Crimson Tide's season opener will be televised nationally on the GOLF Channel. The network will deliver live coverage airing from 3:30-6:30 p.m. CT (4:30-7:30 p.m. ET) on each night of the tournament.
Marking the first televised event for the 2020-21 collegiate golf season, The Blessings Collegiate Invitational is expected to feature simultaneous men's and women's teams from across the Southeastern Conference which will compete in a 54-hole stroke play format for individual and team honors.
The Alabama men enter its first tournament of the year by welcoming back seven letterwinners and four starters from last season's team, including senior Wilson Furr and sophomore Canon Claycomb who were both selected to the 2021 Preseason Fred Haskins Award Watch List. Furr is coming off outstanding summer performances after leading UA on the course last spring, highlighted by winning the stroke play portion of the 2020 U.S. Amateur Championship. The rest of the UA lineup includes senior Davis Shore, sophomores Thomas Ponder and Tyler Lipscomb and freshman JP Cave.
Similar to the men, the Alabama women welcome back a full roster of eight returnees and five starters in 2020-21. The Crimson Tide boast a pair of individuals who were selected to the preseason ANNIKA Award Watch List as graduate student Kenzie Wright and freshman Michaela Morard were each recognized prior to the season. Wright, a two-time WGCA All-American, will look to continue her success from her senior campaign where she compiled four top-10 individual finishes. Senior Angelica Moresco also returns this season and is no stranger to the challenging Blessings Golf Club, which served as host for the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Senior Polly Mack and sophomores Caroline Curtis and Emilie Øverås round out the UA lineup.
The 2020 Blessings Collegiate Invitational will be contested without spectators. Event officials are working closely with Blessings Golf Club and other health-related resources to carefully monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers will implement increased health and sanitation procedures in effort to protect the health and safety of the players, coaches, officials, staff and production personnel on-site.
