Alabama Women’s Tennis To Host 33rd Roberta Alison Fall Classic This Weekend

Competition for the two-day tournament will begin at 9 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team will host the annual Roberta Alison Fall Classic Friday and Saturday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. CT on both days of the tournament.

THE ROBERTA ALISON
- The event will begin Friday at 9 a.m. CT with doubles matches
- Alabama welcomes 14 teams to Tuscaloosa for the two-day tournament
- The Crimson Tide will compete against players from Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Northwestern, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, Virginia Tech, UAB and Wisconsin
- The tournament features eight singles draws and four doubles draws
- This weekend marks the 33rd time Alabama has hosted the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. The annual event was canceled last year due to the Covid pandemic.
LAST TIME OUT
- Alabama hosted the ITA Southern Regionals Oct. 14-19
- Including the Tide, 18 schools participated in the regional event as the tournament showcased 113 singles players and 49 doubles teams
- Anne Marie Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh won the regional doubles title and earned a berth to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif.
- The UA doubles duo defeated four seeded teams on their way to victory in 16th-seeded Sofia Zaprianov and Alexis Lopez from Samford (8-2), fourth-seeded Sabina Machalova and Tiphanie Fiquet from Ole Miss (8-3), eighth-seeded Maggie Cubitt and Safiya Carrington from LSU (8-6) and second-seeded Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine from Mississippi State (3-6, 7-5 [10-8]), respectively
- Additionally, Petra Sedlackova advanced to the semifinals in singles, winning four main draw matches during the tournament
HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
- Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko open doubles play Friday against Tulane's Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russel at 9 a.m. CT
- Sedlackova and Parkhomenko are coming off a quarterfinals appearance at the ITA Southern Regionals, winning two of three matches against a seeded opponent
- Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak will face Wisconsin's Ava Markham and Ariel Johnson, while Sydney Orefice and Ansley Cheshire open the tournament against South Alabama's Otoha Aoki and Lara van der Merwe
