
Alabama’s Kaique Alves Earns World Championships 800m Freestyle Relay Bronze

The Crimson Tide rookie earned Alabama’s third medal at the 2021 FINA World Championships being held in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI – Alabama's Kaique Alves continued to add to his already impressive rookie season, earning a bronze medal at the 2021 FINA World Championships at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate Sunday,
Alves helped lead Brazil to a bronze-medal finish in the 800-meter freestyle relay, swimming the third leg and contributing to its 6:49.60. Alves and Brazil were also third coming out of prelims, with the Crimson Tide freshman dropping more than a second off his 200 meter between prelims and finals.
Alves' medal is the third of the championships for the Crimson Tide, with Rhyan White taking gold in the 200-meter backstroke and silver as part of the United States' 200-meter medley relay.
The Crimson Tide on Day Four of the World Championships
- Due to the time difference, Monday's prelims are slated to get underway Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. CT, while finals get underway Monday at 8 a.m.
- Diana Petkova (Bulgaria) is slated to swim the prelims of the 200-meter individual medley
- Petkova and Kalia Antoniou (Cyprus) are both set to swim the prelims of the 50-meter freestyle
