The Gamecocks scored in six of the eight innings in the series finale
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Alabama baseball came up short on Saturday, suffering an 11-5 loss to South Carolina. The Crimson Tide is now 25-20 on the season and 9-12 in Southeastern Conference play.
Alabama took the early lead with two runs in the first, but South Carolina came right back with three in the home half. The Gamecocks then added six runs across the third, fourth and fifth innings to put the game out of reach. Alabama continued to fight, using a three-run home run from Dominic Tamez in the sixth to make it a 9-5 ballgame, but the Tide would get no closer. SC added single tallies in the seventh and eighth for the eventual 11-5 final.
South Carolina starter Will Sanders (6-2) picked up the win, allowing five runs over 7.0 innings on Saturday. Grayson Hitt (4-2) suffered the loss for UA.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"Our kids were ready to go today. The energy, the intent and the focus was outstanding. They really brought it and we were hot out of the gate, but we just didn't pitch well enough today. We've certainly had a lot of games where we were inefficient offensively and didn't do enough with the bat, but today we just didn't pitch it well."
How It Happened
- T1 | Jim Jarvis started the game with a single. A double from Andrew Pinckney in the next at-bat put two in scoring position for Drew Williamson. The senior sent a sac fly to center to get the Tide on the board. After a groundout moved Pinckney to third, William Hamiter brought him in with a double to the corner in right. (2-0, Alabama)
- B1 | The Gamecocks used three hits and a walk to plate three runs. (3-2, South Carolina)
- B3 | A leadoff single followed by a home run from Andrew Eyster added a pair for SC. (5-2, South Carolina)
- B4 | The Gamecocks loaded the bases before a groundout scored one followed by a two-run double to widen the gap. (8-2, South Carolina)
- B5 | With two on, a single up the middle for SC added to their lead. (9-2, South Carolina)
- T6 | Pinckney and Williamson led off the inning with singles. Dominic Tamez then brought the pair home in the next at-bat with a three-run home run. (9-5, South Carolina)
- B7 | A one-out double to right added a run for the Gamecocks. (10-5, South Carolina)
- B8 | With runners at second and third, a sacrifice fly crossed one run. (11-5, South Carolina)
Postgame Notes
- Caden Rose drew two walks in today's game and has recorded multiple walks in three of his last four games, totaling eight over that time. He had recorded eight total over his previous 31 games.
