Alabama Concludes ITA Southern Regional Championships in Quarterfinals

The Crimson Tide had members reach the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles draw at the regional tournament
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama men's tennis team concluded the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Saturday after advancing student-athletes to the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles draw.
The Crimson Tide had two doubles teams reach the quarterfinal round as Damien Nezar and Roan Jones as well as Andrii Zimnokh and Zach Foster finished in the top eight after securing a win in the Round of 16. Additionally, Zimnokh and teammate Matias Ponce De Leon competed in the quarterfinals of singles thanks to a trio of wins in the main draw earlier in the week.
The Match
- Zimnokh and Foster, ranked 18th nationally, dropped just two games to defeat in-conference foe Isac Stromberg and Gordon Whitewell from Ole Miss, 8-2, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals
- Nezar and Jones also posted a dominant performance in the Round of 16, defeating William Ribero and Leonard Tramolay from Louisiana, 8-3
- Nezar and Jones would win four games off of the top-ranked doubles team in the country, falling 8-4 to Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez-Martinez from Mississippi State
- Zimnokh and Foster battled Auburn's William Nolan and Billy Blades in an 8-6 loss
- In singles action, Ponce De Leon faced Mississippi State's Jovanovic in the quarterfinals, falling 6-0, 6-3 to the 12th-ranked singles player in the country
- No. 62 Zimnokh concluded his singles run in the quarterfinals as well, dropping 6-3, 6-3 to No. 107 Sanchez-Martinez from MSU

- The Crimson Tide will send members to the Georgia Tech Invite
- The three-day tournament in Atlanta will run Nov. 1-3
- Alabama will also await selections for the ITA Sectional Championships (Nov. 7-10) in Tallahassee, Fla.
