WACO, Texas – Singles play highlighted the opening day of the Big 12/SEC Challenge for the Alabama men's tennis team as Roan Jones, Damien Nezar and Carlos Gimenez Perez each recorded a win in their individual matchups.

Alabama faced members from Texas Tech in the opening round of singles while playing student-athletes from Oklahoma State in doubles action.

Match Notes

Jones captured mirroring set scores of 6-2, 6-2 to top Texas Tech's Niksa Arsic and earn Alabama its first win of the tournament
Gimenez Perez dropped just two games over two sets to defeat Sebastian Abbound with a 6-1, 6-1 victory
After losing the first set 6-4, Nezar battled back to win a tiebreak at 7-4 and force a third set against Piotr Pawlak
He would go on to dominate the last round, securing a 6-2 decision for the win
Matias Ponce De Leon fought through two tiebreakers in his singles match against Tyler Stewart
Ponce De Leon fell 7-5 in the opening set tiebreaker, before dropping an 8-6 tiebreak decision in the second set
Carlos Gimenez Perez and Damien Nezar battled through a 7-2 tiebreaker in their doubles matchup, falling to Oklahoma State's Ian Bracks and Derek Pham
Jones and Ponce De Leon fell 8-3 to Alessio Basile and Thomas Nicholas Gadecki
