No. 19 Alabama Falls 4-1 to No. 5 Virginia In ITA Kickoff Weekend Finals

Filip Planinsek highlighted the Crimson Tide’s performance in the match, defeating Virginia’s No. 57 Dietrich in two sets
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 19 Alabama men's tennis team (3-1) fell, 4-1, in the finals of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament to host school and fifth-ranked Virginia (4-0) on Sunday. Filip Planinsek highlighted the match with a singles victory over Virginia's Dylan Dietrich, ranked 57th nationally, on court one.
The Tide made its fourth appearance since 2009 and second consecutive trip to the finals at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

"Virginia played at a very high level today in front of a good home crowd. Filip was razor sharp and we had good efforts on all courts. The guys are disappointed but it's early (in the season). Our team needs to get healthy and back to work. Time to move on and prepare for another challenging weekend."
Match Notes
- Despite Virginia winning doubles courts three and two, respectively, Alabama's No. 1 doubles pairing of Planinsek and Matic Kriznik were leading 5-4 when the point was clinched
- Planinsek continued to dominate, winning the first singles point of the day
- He would take the first set 6-4, over 57th-ranked Dietrich before following with a 6-2 victory in the second set to tie the team score at 1-1
- The Cavaliers would follow, however, with victories on courts four, six and five to win the match
- After a first set loss, Matias Ponce De Leon battle backed to lead the second set 4-1, while Roan Jones was tied 6-6 in the second set when the match was decided
