Happy Holidays and Roll Tide from Alabama Athletics
From all of us here in Alabama Athletics, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We're grateful for the support you provide the Crimson Tide and wish you all the joys of the season and happiness throughout the coming year.
Forty University of Alabama Student-Athletes Set for Winter CommencementÂ
This past weekend, we had total of 40 Crimson Tide student-athletes receive diplomas during The University of Alabama's winter commencement, which took place in Coleman Coliseum. The list includes members from the 2023 Southeastern Conference Championship football team, three All-Americans and student-athletes that won All-SEC honors in football, soccer, gymnastics and track and field. Congratulations to our graduates!
Justin Thomas' Generous Gift
In case you missed it, former Alabama golfer and current PGA star Justin Thomas made an amazing gesture when he announced that he committed $1 million dollars to the Crimson Standard, which will be directed to the men's and women's golf facility, the Crimson Reserve. His support of our department and golf programs, both financially and his input on designing our world-class facility, continues makes us incredibly proud of his generosity and character. Thank you, Justin!
Football Ready for Oklahoma Rematch in College Football Playoff
Our football team earned the No. 9 seed in the 2025 College Football Playoff and will travel to take on No. 8 seed Oklahoma in the opening round on Friday night. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CT on ABC and ESPN. As I mentioned earlier this week, I am proud to have Coach DeBoer leading our football program at The University of Alabama. I know he and the rest of the team are excited for the opportunity to compete for a championship and will be ready to go at kickoff inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Doris Lemngole Continues to Reap Awards, Wins Honda Sport Award for Cross Country
For the second year in a row, our very own Doris Lemngole has been named the Honda Sport Award winner for Cross Country by The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA). Doris, who was named a finalist all three years of her Alabama career, became the first student-athlete in Crimson Tide history to win the honor twice and the first cross country athlete in 14 years to win in consecutive seasons (Sheila Reid, Villanova, 2010-11).
Earlier this month, Doris was named the USTFCCCA National Women's Athlete of the Year after she claimed the cross country individual national title at the NCAA Championships. In doing so, Doris became the first back-to-back winner in the women's race in 14 years! Amazing accomplishment for an amazing student-athlete and even better person!
With all her accomplishments, perhaps the most prestigious is the Bowerman Award – which is track and field's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. Doris has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious honor and is the only person in program history to reach this stage of the award. The Bowerman Award will be presented tonight at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on RunnerSpace.com. Looking forward to being there in person and supporting this wonderful student-athlete of ours. Â
Women's Basketball off to a Program-Best Start
Head coach Kristy Curry and our women's basketball team is off to the best start in program history! With wins this week over Jackson State, Sam Houston and Tulane, our ladies have started the year a perfect 13-0 and are ranked No. 24 in the nation! The team will host Troy Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. CT before opening Southeastern Conference play at South Carolina on New Year's Day (Thursday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. CT). Both contests can be seen on SEC Network+. Tickets are on sale through the Alabama Ticket Office, so be sure to purchase yours today!
Men's Basketball Defeats USF Wednesday Night
Our No. 16/16 men's basketball team got back to its winning ways, improving to 8-3 on the year with a 104-93 victory over South Florida last night inside Coleman Coliseum. Head coach Nate Oats and his squad are considered one of the top offensive teams in the country and will play two more non-conference games before opening SEC play with a home game vs. Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 3. The Crimson Tide will first travel to Huntsville, Ala., to take on Kennesaw State, who is coached by former assistant coach and a fan favorite Antoine Pettway, on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. CT. The team will then close out the year by hosting Yale on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. inside Coleman Coliseum. Both contests can be seen on SEC Network+.

University Spotlight
Congratulations are in order for a special group of UA students. Recently, we had 10 students selected to travel to Washington, D.C., next summer for The University of Alabama System's 2026 Capitol Scholars program. The program provides exceptional UA System students pursuing government-related careers with immersive summer internships and experiential learning opportunities in the nation's capital. Each of these 10 students applied for the program during the fall 2025 semester. Applicants underwent a rigorous, merit-based application and interview process, focusing on areas such as academic excellence, leadership and commitment to national, state and local community service. Pretty cool program for a special group of students and future leaders!
#RollTideFriday
I am excited to share this week's #RollTideFriday photo. As you know, we enjoy seeing the photos that come in, especially when it shows our fans in other countries wearing the "Alabama A," which is a worldwide brand! This week's submission comes from Jeremy and Mandy Cole at Riffelsee at the Matterhorn near Zermatt, Switzerland. A beautiful photo and quite the impressive view! Roll Tide!

As a reminder, if you would like to submit a #RollTideFriday photo, be sure to use the hashtag in your social posts and tweet your photos to me at @Greg_Byrne.Â
