
Tommy Hagar Named to U.S. National Team Roster

The UA junior earned a spot in the 200 backstroke after his performance during the 2024-25 season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alabama junior Tommy Hagar was named to the U.S. National Team roster in the 200 backstroke, USA Swimming announced Monday.
Hagar will serve as a member of the national team from Sept. 8, 2025 – Sept. 7, 2026.

- Hagar had the sixth-fastest 200 backstroke time, long course meters (LCM), in the country last year, securing him a spot on the national team
- His time of 1:57.23 at the 2025 National Championships set a school record, topping his prior record of 1:57.80 from the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2024
- He would finish third in the prelims with his UA-record-breaking performance, before placing seventh overall at the national meet
- Additionally, Hagar is an All-American in the 200 backstroke, short course yards, finishing 12th overall at the NCAA Championships
- He holds Alabama's third-fastest time in the event at 1:39.43, recording the performance at the 2025 NCAA Championships
- Alabama is one of just 25 universities to have an athlete named to either the men's or women's national team roster
