Jones Captures Silver Medal to Pace UA on Day Three of SEC Championships

Emily Jones secured a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke to highlight the Crimson Tide
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Emily Jones captured her second silver medal at the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships to highlight Alabama on the third night of competition.
Jones dropped 0.44 seconds off her prelim time to finish second in the event with a 50.59. The performance marked the second time this season Jones has surpassed 51 seconds in the event as she notched a 50.61 performance earlier in the year at the UGA Fall Invite.
Highlights
- With a career-best time of 50.59, Emily Jones captured the second-best time of the night
- The silver medal was the second of the meet for Jones, who also placed second with the 200 medley relay on Tuesday
- Tommy Hagar bettered his career-best performance from the prelims (45.26) with a 45.23 as he captured eighth in the meet and moved to fifth on UA's all-time top-10 list
- Gabriel Moura improved his career-best 200 butterfly time twice during the day's events, landing at No. 4 all-time thanks to a 1:43.25 swim in the finals
- He went 1:43.53 in the prelims
- Charlotte Rosendale also earned a spot on UA's all-time list, landing at No. 10 in the 100 breast after going 59.68 in the finals
- In the men's 100 breast, Steijn Louter posted a career-best 52.39 to rank eighth all-time in program history and win the C final
- Earlier in the day, Cole Witmer posted a 100 back time of 46.12 to rank seventh in Alabama history
- Ella Menear tied a career-best 52.11 in the 100 back to earn the ninth-fastest time of the morning
- After the third night of competition, Alabama women are in seventh place (238 points) as the men's team sits in ninth place (198.5 points).

- Alabama will battle in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 free, women's 3m dive and 400 medley relay (finals only) on Thursday
- Swimming prelims will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT, while diving prelims will start at 11 a.m.
- Finals for both swimming and diving will start at 4:30 p.m.
